Still at it on Thursdays

The plan is to keep it up until Thanksgiving.

It got chilly last night but not unbearable. We’ve had a nice just-above-average-temperature run so I’m making the most of it.

Cardio clinic finale and a lesson

Last night was the cardio clinic finale. The coach ran us more than any other class this summer or fall. Laps, suicides, het touches during drills, all of it. It was cold out and it was brutal.

The lesson afterward was limited to some ground strokes and a ton of serves. It’s really starting to come together. I do like a lesson.

We got to talking, in the lesson, about the things we’re working on and what I’m working toward. The gist was that I’m “learning tennis” not just getting better at how I do it.

This is exactly what I wanted from these lessons. I come with some built-in limitations (old, fat, slow) but I compound those when I’m not serving or hitting the ball the right way. Now, by learning proper technique, I should only be limited by the built-in stuff. If i can keep it going through the winter I should be set up well when play starts in the Spring.

Back on some beer

Enjoyed a couple of cans of Weapon of Choice from Civil Society Brewing.

Like Adam mentioned on the show, it’s great that Richmond gets beer this good from far away. As shitty as 2020 has been, generally, we’re in an Era of Great Beer Availability.

Dune Buggy

There used to be a lot of these around when I was a kid.

This looks just like Speed Buggy.

Cardio Clinic and a Lesson

Felt a little better after all of this last night. I think maybe I’m getting in some kind of shape. Too bad it’s at the end of outdoor tennis season (and I’m not interested in paying for an indoor option for the winter).

I do plan to hit some balls and work on my serve over the colder months so I’m not a complete disaster when we start up again in the Spring.

Safe As Milk Podcast #145

Adam's coaster struggles continue, but we found a way to talk about harps, a bummer of a Netflix movie, a fun Netflix movie, and another strong entry in our Podcast about Podcasts Series.

Drinks!

Followup and Footnotes

A classic for recording last week.

(man, I’ve got posts stuck in the drafts folder!)

I took a turn with Adam’s signature recording cocktail for last night’s episode: a Manhattan with Bulleit Rye and a Luxardo cherry.

Played a lot of tennis this weekend.

Like, a lot-a lot. I had a lesson, and then regular Thursday play, and then a doubles tournament on Friday, followed by some casual hitting on Saturday. A rainy Sunday saved me from myself (and I’m taking today off from tennis, too).

The night was humid.

I had that cardio tennis thing again, followed by a lesson. The temperature was nice, but it was kind of humid.

That’s salt. I was a gross mess. >yuck emoji<

Double Fitness on Saturday

A little bench pressing in the morning and then an impromptu tennis lesson in the afternoon. I took it easy at the gym, which worked out well. The lesson was all instructional, which is exactly what I need. The Tuesday night tennis is much more about cardio and the Thursday night tennis is about playing double and drinking beer. I need the play reps, but I also need to learn the “right way” to hit the ball so I can be more consistent.

I’m going to try to get a few more lessons in before the weather goes cold.

Tennis is a lot of fun. I’m glad I picked it back up.
