There is something about Jeremy Geddes’ cosmonaut paintings that hits me the right way. He somehow converys the deep silence of space even when his cosmonaut is in urban settings. I really want one of his prints but they run kind of expensive and they always seem to come out when the art budget is [...]
The last 6 months or so have seen some outstanding posters from The Alamo Drafthouse. Their latest, by Tom Whalen, continues the streak. It goes on sale tomorrow at Mondo, the Alamo Drafthouse online storefront. [ viaAICN ]
The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau My rating: 3 of 5 stars My 10-year-old finished this last week so I read it on her recommendation. It was good. Probably very good for young adult fiction because it didn’t get too explicitly preachy.Thumbs up. View all my reviews
From this pop-up cafe in Germany. There is a lot of pretty cool art in there, but the Solo print does it for me despite having reached my Star Wars saturation point a few years ago. It’s worth clicking through to see the rest. [via Arrested Motion]
Yesterday I finished “The Passage, by Justin Cronin“. It’s pretty terrific. I haven’t been grabbed like that by a book in a while. As in, several 1am weeknights, a whole weekend lost to just reading between meals and loads of laundry, and the last 5% at my desk at work. Gripping. It belongs filed under [...]
This is really nice. Aaron Horkey and Vania Zouravliov have teamed up to create this Dracula movie poster for the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX. They are both done in metallic inks. $60 for the grayscale, $110 for the bronze variant. On-sale time is unknown, they’re going to announce the open via their twitter (@MondoNews). [...]
Clever. For sale at 20×200. [ via Felix Salmon]
Screens ‘n’ Suds is back for another poster and beer show on November 6th. I went last year and it was a solid time. You know, because of all of the beer and the posters. And if the beer and posters combo isn’t enough, the proceeds from the S-n-S poster sales and admission contributions are [...]
I love the idea. I just wish the print was smaller. I have too many 18″x24″ prints and nowhere to hang them. You can order one here. But I tempted to just print one at 5×7 and send the guy $10.
Before the silly-nice vinyl toys, Ashley Wood was (and remains) a painter. He’s got a couple of new prints based on paintings coming for sale at a random time this week. I like the look, and the price ($25 and $40, shipped) is nice, but I already have too many posters in a pile waiting [...]
