It was delicious.
It was delicious.
Stole away to Nelson County, Va. with some of the tennis guys this weekend. We had one back over the summer, too, and it’s starting to feel like it could be a quarterly thing. That’s about as much of it as I can take.
We stayed up on the mountain at Wintergreen, but lucked into nice weather and played some tennis in the valley. Otherwise, it was eating and drinking. It’s a lovely place this time of year.
Tacos and some cold ones on a dreary Saturday.
Weird that taco day would be on a Monday, but I’m not one to fight a chance to hit up El Cap.
Fully vaccinated and dining responsibly. This weekend we hit Mekong, a family favorite, and I got busy on a big bowl of phở and a couple of cold ones.
Creeping closer to normalcy.
Closing out Spring Break with some sandwiches and a pitcher at Chiocca’s.
It was, even if only for half an hour, a taste of the Before Times and very welcome.
That snow sky paid off, for a few hours anyway. I hustled out to get a fire started so I could drink some coffee in the snow.
We ended up with about 4 inches. This measurement was after it had been raining/sleeting a bit. It would have been a ton of snow if we’d gotten 5 degrees colder.
That morning coffee was the only time I left the house. I spent the evening working on this miso-marinated flank steak stir fry. It was a tasty but I already know what changes I’m making for next time.
Beer-in-the-snow postscript, because beer and firepits are like “peas and carrots”, as Forrest would say.
Runny eggs over crab cakes don’t photograph well, but goddamn are they tasty.
If the bagel was better it would be the front-runner for meal of the year.
