Halotography
I know, not the best name for it, but that’s what he calls them so I will play along.

Apparently they’re all photoshopped from real, in-game Halo3 screenshots. There are lots of cool ones in there. Take a look. I’m not the biggest fan of the game, but the multimedia capabilities are freaking sweet.
[thanks, JP]
Good ubuntu read
I am in the fits-and-starts stages of installing ubuntu Linux on our old Dell laptop. There are some video settings I need to tinker with and I then I will have to work through getting the correct wireless settings (read: headaches), but overall I am excited at the low-end geekiness of this project.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading about Linux, specifically Ubuntu, and came across a good “layman’s take” on the newest Ubuntu release, version 8.04 (the Hardy Heron). I kinda love how the releases have names as well as version numbers.
In “The Great Ubuntu-Girlfriend Experiment” the guy installs Hardy Heron on a computer and asks his girlfriend to perform a series of tasks without any of his help. It’s a good read.
Too soon.
(pretty neat feature via The Onion, though)
Friggin’ finally.
The bad news is that he’s still got a job with the team, but my guess is that it’s so they don’t have to pay him for doing nothing for the rest of his (recently extended) contract.
What a nightmare this has been.
That’s a lot of what.
I am still giggling over this. I am simple.

Jack Long - “They Returned Every Year”
I’m not sure what it is about Jack Long’s work, but I really like it. I have this Tiny Showcase he did, and I am sorely tempted to find a way to fit his newest, “They Returned Every Year” into the art budget. Oh man, look at the paintings! I’m going to need to be the Best Boy Ever for Santa to wing one of those my way.
I think it’s the Jim Woodring-esque colors and line weight but without the genuinely creepy inhabitants of the Woodring settings.
‘Juice (Know the Ledge)’
The main theme from the 1992 movie ‘Juice‘, by Eric B. and Rakim. Goddamn I love this song.
The movie was cool, too, despite featuring Tupac. I never really dug that guy. Also of note, the score of the movie was done by Gary G Wiz, who you may know from his work with The Bomb Squad.
Sepaking Speaking of cool-looking posters…
Tom Standard put this clever spin on your Simon and Garfunkel. Damn. I could really go for a cuppa joe.
This poster is part of the Beans and Screens series and show at Mugshots Coffee in Phila. to raise money for the (Guatemalan? Peruvian!) farmers who produce some of the Fair Trade beans sold through the Independents Coffee Cooperative.
**update 4/7** I got my poster. It’s as cool in person as it is online. Sometimes the jpeg looks really good but doesn’t translate well to ink. This is not one of those times. Nice work, Tom.
