Halo 3 gets a thumbs-up from me.

There is a lot to like about the new Halo, but the best thing so far (and by a mile-ed.) is the thing where the last 25 multiplayer and campaign games are archived on the bungie.net servers for you to go and replay. Then when you’re watching, if you see something awesome, you can snag a screenshot and upload it to share

Here are my shared items.

Or, and this is the coolest part, you can carve whole clips out of the game to upload and share.
The clips aren’t accessible via the internet yet, you need to download and view them through your 360, but I can’t imagine it will be too long before we can get a couple of hours of play in on a Tuesday night and spend Wednesday talking junk and breaking down film online.

Belowyou will see me exacting some sweet rocket-flavored revenge after crmjolnir killed my teammate. And the best part about the screenshot is that you can’t see that the rocket also killed me in the process. I’m really not that good at this game.

I got your back, e.

Ape lad draws the Marvel Universe

Ape Lad is Adam Kofford. He’s the guy that draws those ‘Laugh-Out-Loud-Cats’ cartoons that I like so darn much.

He’s drawing the Marvel Universe.

It’s early in the process but so far it’s very good:

Defending the base

MIT’s known for pranks, or hacks, against rival school Harvard (and sometimes even on their own campus). Their latest hack today enhances the John P. Harvard statue with a battle-ready Master Chief Spartan helmet and assault rifle (with a bullet count of 2E) in honor of Halo day.

[From Gizmodo. Thanks, Ben.]

It’s a good week for New Music

José González – In Our Nature

Jill Scott – The Real Thing: Words and Sounds, Vol. 3

Two Gallants – Two Gallants

Tunng – Good Arrows

Too bad this stupid (self-imposed and completely necessary – ed.) Halo3 purchase embargo will keep me from grabbing that stuff for another couple of weeks. I miss compulsive bulk music purchases…

Luke Chueh

I am a big, big fan of Luke Chueh’s work. Not so much the bloody stuff, but definitely the creepy/cute bears.

His ‘Possessed’ toy is probably the best vinyl toy I’ve seen this year:

Luke Chueh's Possessed

He is having an art show at the 1998 Gallery in Los Angeles from 9/6-10/1. There are going to be a couple of giclee prints available at the show, my favorite being Dig Dug. I can’t tell you how many quarters I pumped into that machine as a kid. This is an awesome print (but at $100 for a giclee it’s well out of my current art budget) :

Cool Tools got a new logo…

…so it’s an easy opportunity to mention just how much I love Cool Tools.

cool tools logo

Kevin Kelly updates with one cool tool every day. I’ve found tons and tons of both useful and lust-worthy gadgets there, along with books and art and websites, etc…

It’s part of my everyday surf routine and I can’t recommend it more highly.

I’m not too crazy about the new logo, though. Looks like it belongs on the flag of some Central American banana republic.

Stencil Goodness

I go back and forth on the merits of graffiti and other street art. There is a new (to me) movement of these stencil guys doing work on wood and paper, and then selling them as prints. It knocks the ‘vandal’ tag off of the work, which is a positive, but that sort of illegal element was always part of the draw for me. I guess an upshot is that you get to enjoy the art in your own home. But then wasn’t the point of bombing a wall or pasting a billboard to get your art or message in the face of the public?

Like I said, I go back and forth on it.

I like this a lot, though, from Les Enfants Terribles:
