Heavy Rotation – Elvis Perkins

Like PB&J, Elvis Perkins is another veteran of an Out The Other mixtape.

Ash Wednesday is his debut album. It’s definitely in a folky vein but I don’t get a Birkenstocks and need-of-a-shower vibe. It’s more of a hand-knit sweater and regionalmicrobrew by the fireplace thing. The mood is downbeat without being desolate and it seems a lot more suited to late Fall or Winter listening than early Spring which is why I haven’t been spinning it as much as I probably should. The music I listen to is definitely influenced by the season and I am just not feeling this right now. I like it. It’s good music. I’m just not in the mood for most of what’s here.

Sleep Sandwich‘ is the song that Janet dropped into her mix and it’s my favorite Elvis Perkins song. It’s got a serious Jens Lenkman feel to it and if you like Jens you will definitely like ‘Sleep Sandwich’. I mean, who doesn’t love songs with a theremin. Enjoy.
