November 30th

So, um, like, this photo is a symbol and stuff. You see the part on the right, like, where all of the blue sky is? That kind of represents the weird, like, warm weather we’ve had here in Richmond for the last week. I mean like really warm for November. Like 70ยบ! And then, over on the left, is the true winter weather that is supposed be getting here this weekend. It’s symbolic and stuff. You know? Like the cold moving in. You know?

Heavy Rotation - Beck

The Information is more of the Beck that I lovelovelove. Great beats, the occasional quiet moment, and the cool weirdness that Beck seems to deliver by the shoveful. This album is in tight running with that Pernice Bros. record for tops in 2006 for me.

Nausea is just a solid groove. Great driving music. Enjoy.

Saw this on a city bus. Isn’t a gingerbread man drinking ginger ale vaguely cannibalistic?

Crowded corner, 10th and Main.

Crowded corner, 10th and Main.

This probably should have been yesterday’s photo of the day. I was very far away from these machines when I took the photo so there was quite a bit of tinkering done to get it to look (what I consider) good.

Just to close out the screenprinting series I rolled a couple more tonight with yellow and red. The results weren’t as nice at first. It took longer for the orange to build than last night’s purple, but in the end I think it worked out well.

I’m hoping to get outside for the last few photos of November. Wish me luck.

Tycho getting it right.

This Penny Arcade piece is focused on the 360’s media download service and Tycho makes an excellent point here regarding the price of downloads versus a rental or a DVD purchase:

“I’m the weirdo who wants to pay directly for the shows I watch, and what the networks are telling me (via their pricing) is that they will charge me more for profoundly restricted versions of the same content if they believe they can get away with it. No. No, in every language. I’m not a psychotic demagogue when it comes to DRM, I’m willing to tolerate it when I get what I want out of the bargain. That’s not happening here. These are versions of shows for more money with less features and zero portability…Looking at their model, it’s almost engineered to make digital delivery the least appealing option. “

I’m with him in that I want the people who make the content I’m after to have some of my money. That’s more than reasonable. It’s practically fair.

I like the process (ritual?) of watching good television. I don’t ever see myself getting my ‘Lost’ or ‘Heroes’ fix from a laptop. I also rarely watch my stories as they’re being televised. Tivo has certainly changed that for me. Michelle and I don’t sit down to watch until 20 minutes or so into an hour-long timeslot.

But if I didn’t have my Tivo I’d gladly pay $2 for a single episode of a show so I don’t have to skip commercials or hope that the network hasn’t whipped up some dumb start/stop time to penalize time-shifters or activated some digital flag that limits the number of times I can view a show. I would be happy to cut the advertising middle man out of my viewing equation. That is a future I could certainly get behind (you can keep your jetpacks, thanks).

Do any of you watch a show exclusively via download?

Horkey - Neurosis

horkey

Did you like those cute little silkscreens I made? Well this is an example of how the Big Boys roll. That poster is one of the new Aaron Horkey prints from Burlesque Design.

The detail in the fire is absolutely insane.

It’s not on sale yet, but I will be at the front of the line when it is.
