BRBNMS

Okay everyone, I am heading on a week-long vacation and it is highly unlikely that I will have any kind of internet available to me. The town we’re heading to has a crappy internet cafe that we went to last year but it sucked so bad we might pass this year.

I will try to keep my flickr page active with treo photos, but that’s assuming the little fellow survives the trip.

Be nice. And no spamming, please.

Via Slashdot:

“Babylon 5 fans rejoice! It appears that our favorite space outpost is back. It will be returning soon in a series of direct-to-DVD 20min episodes, each featuring the past of one of our favorite characters.”

Addendum: In reading the AICN article, I discovered that Andreas Katsulas died back in February. Katsulas’ career was mostly as a character actor, villain, or voice talent. But in B5, he played the incredibly dynamic G’Kar, easily my favorite character, who began the series as a groan-inducing one-dimensional villain and grew into a nuanced embodiment of love and courage. Too bad. Also too bad that hardly anyone who reads this will remember him in anything.

It says here that Prince is scheduled to play the halftime show for the next Super Bowl.

I am into that, because I like that guy.

The State on DVD — FINALLY(?)

I can’t find any official corroboration, but the rumor that The State is coming to DVD or iTunes in the near future is just too juicy to not post.

You do remember The State, don’t you?

‘Iron West’ by Doug TenNapel

Doug TenNapel is the guy who co-designed the Earthworm Jim game back in the early 90’s. The game was entertainingly weird and a lot of fun. Doug also has a good bit of comic work under his belt. Creature Tech is a great read that I recommend highly.

TenNapel’s newest release is ‘Iron West‘. Pat over at Velocity put a copy in my hand last week and, once again, he wad dead-on in his recommendation. ‘Iron West’ is the story of outlaw (and monumental coward) Preston Struck who happens upon an army of mechanical men with destruction on their hive mind. Despite his best efforts, Struck becomes California’s last, best hope against the mechamanical menace. Plus Sasquatch shows up.

While the book is available at Amazon there is some weird delay in their copies getting shipped. If you want to read it this week the only place you’re going to be able to find it is at your friendly neighborhood comic shoppe.

Staying on the d/l

I still love you. I just don’t have the room to tell you like I want to tell you; like you deserve to be told. Just so you all know, I took a massive hammering on my monthly bandwidth allotment with my entry in the Yewknee Summer Mix Series so I have been holding back content until the month flips over to August.

There is a new Nice 6 on deck and ready to go, plus there are albums to tell you about from: Cut Chemist, the Pipettes, Black Angels, Brightblack Morning Light, and more. August is going to be a good month for you guys, just please bear with the slacker-linkage I’ve been posting for the last 2 weeks (actually, that ‘The Prestige’ trailer is dope, you should check it).

‘The Prestige’

Ronan tipped me to a cool trailer for ‘The Prestige’ due in theaters this Fall.

watch it here at trailersforthemasses.com

I kind of have a thing for the Victorian Magician. I loved J Strange and Mr. Norrell and Carter Beats the Devil so the premise of ‘The Prestige’ is right in my wheelhouse:

Based on Christopher Priest’s 1996 novel, Bale and Jackman play rival magicians in turn-of-the-century London who battle each other for trade secrets. The rivalry is so intense that it turns them into murderers.

Plus Chris Nolan (Batman Begins, ‘Memento‘) makes cool-looking movies. I am going to grab the novel for beach-time reading.

ETA Chez Flynn: October

Chistofle is producing a very limited edition silver Xbox360 faceplates. That’s silver-the-metal, not silver-the-color.

Honestly, when I see the phrase, “pointless and selfish ways to spend… money”, I can’t help but think, “Mike”. Or maybe “Mirror”.

[Thanks, Joystiq.]
