Heavy Rotation - Wolfmother

Yeah, Wolfmother has been everything I was hoping it would be, and maybe a little more. Big, chunky riffs with a late 70’s metal wail. Good stuff. And I was genuinely surprised at the dash of Jack White Wolfmother brings to the party. Of course, I was pleasantly surprised because my feelings for J White are well-documented.

While Wolfmother rocks out (with their rhymes out), they definitely fall short on the lyrical end of things. You can tell they want to keep that Zep/Sabbath flavor by talking about unicorns and mystical mountains and jokers and thieves but it sounds more silly that anything. Honestly, I don’t mind because I am way too busy air guitar-ing along to notice. This is a big, fat rock record and I love it.

And yeah, that’s a Frazetta cover. Looks like a van our neighbors had when I was a kid.

“White Unicorn” just kills it. Early strummed electric guitar makes way for massive chords and then “we drank from the serpents vine /Now we live in another time”. You can’t help but throw horns. Hold onto your pants at the 4-minute mark. The whole thing just blows up at that point. Enjoy.
