Yes, I mean the Jerry Reed, Dom DeLuise, Suzanne Pleshette 1979 tour de force ‘Hot Stuff’. It was a staple of early-era HBO when it seemd like they had a catalog of 25 movies available to show. I probably saw this movie 20 times as a kid.
I mention it because this news item bears more than a passing resemblance to the plot of ‘Hot Stuff’.
Funny.

Oh, yes, indeed. That was a staple in “The Golden Age of HBO”. When I saw every movie they offered, about six times.

That also sounds like the begiining of “Sea of Love”.

It was decent. It was your standard late 80’s/early 90’s murder thriller (see also: Fatal Attraction, Jagged Edge, Presumed Innocent). But the leads were good, even though I don’t like Pacino much anymore. Him, Ellen Barkin, John Goodman.
That was the movie that relaunched Pacino’s career. He wasn’t yet full of himself again (for example: Scent of a Woman, Heat).

Do you remember Stand and Deliver? That was on HBO 100 times one summer. And I watched it over and over because there was nothing else on…not nearly as good as Hot Stuff…
