You ever see ‘Hot Stuff’?
Yes, I mean the Jerry Reed, Dom DeLuise, Suzanne Pleshette 1979 tour de force ‘Hot Stuff’. It was a staple of early-era HBO when it seemd like they had a catalog of 25 movies available to show. I probably saw this movie 20 times as a kid.
I mention it because this news item bears more than a passing resemblance to the plot of ‘Hot Stuff’.
Funny.
New Tiny Showcase TOS

“Otter Joins the Seminary” by Carson Ellis
A subtle policy change with this week’s print from the folks over at Tiny Showcase. In the past, some artists haven chosen to donate proceeds to a charity. These prints have tended to sell out quicker than most. Now, all of the prints will have a charitable contribution component in their purchase price.
“Beginning with Carson’s print and going forward, each and every print sold will carry along with it a donation to a charity chosen by the artist. Five dollars from each copy of this print will go to The Rock and Roll Camp for Girls. This raises the print price slightly, but now the artist, as well as their favorite charity, benefit from each piece sold.”
This is a good idea. Seriously excellent art at a perfectly affordable price and now with the karma of a good deed thrown in. If you don’t at least try it now, well, I don’t know what to say.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

I’m a big fan of Wes Anderson’s movies in general but this one didn’t do it for me.
I thought there were some very funny bits. The scene where Jeff Goldblum hits the 3-legged dog for no real reason was funny and Angelica Huston, who I normally don’t care for, was wickedly funny as Zissou’s current wife. I also love how Wes Anderson’s movies look. All of the washed-out blues with sharp stabs of orange and yellow and bright green were perfect. I even bought the stop-motion fish and other animals, they were hokey but I gave Anderson the benefit of the doubt on them.
The story just didn’t grab me. Owen Wilson’s accent was distracting, too.
Oh! I almost forgot. The shoe-whore in me loved the Zissou model adidas ROM. Too bad they never made them.

The new New Pornographers out today
I don’t know how I missed this one. Hurry! Go buy it!

You can read what the band has been up to since Electric Version here.
This is bad. Very, very bad.
Coughlin ‘very concerned’ about Manning’s elbow.
My first thought is that it can’t be so bad because he did have the long touchdown throw after the injury occured. Still, any serious injury to the elbow on his throwing arm will be bad for a looong time.
Ugh, we’re 3 weeks away from the season opener and already the Giants are killing me.
(8/22) edit to add: Whew! It’s just a sprain.
Framed! (preamble)
You art lovers will be happy to know that I have finally begun the process of slowly releasing the giant stack of art I’ve been accumulating into the wild. I started with a few Tiny Showcase prints and then 2 posters by Chris Hope. There is a lot more to come and I will try to keep you updated with the new stuff as it happens.
Before long the walls of my house will be filled, FILLED I say, with all of these wonderful little (and some not so little) bits. I’m excited.
Framed! (part1)

“Giraffe Swing” by David Barneda
The real green of this print is not as bright as it looks on the print’s page but it’s definitely not as yellow as it looks in my photo. You really need to see it to believe how good this looks. If you haven’t bought a Tiny Showcase print yet and you’re a fan of really sharp-looking art, I am here to tell you that you’re missing out. Something like “Giraffe Swing” would be a perfect decoration in a child’s room and for just $16 it’s a steal.
Framed! (part 2)

“stay close” by Rachel Salomon
I took 5 different pictures of this one trying to get the texture in the sky to show but I just couldn’t get it. You really need to see it in person to get the proper effect.
