New Tiny Showcase

The new Tiny Showcase is up. It’s a bit of a break from the norm in that it is darker than most of the prints have been so far. It has a very Charles Burns feel to it, if you ask me.

And again, the proceeds are being donated to charity so if you head over there and you like you it you better buy it.

“You Make It We Take It”

We caught this gem on our way to the wedding this weekend:

Check out the slogan for All Star Septic.
Fitting.

Gross, but fitting.

The end of the Jesus timeline

I got to go to a wedding this weekend up in Front Royal, VA. It’s pretty rural up there. One of the rooms the bridal party commandeered for the wedding was a Sunday school classroom. Apparently there was a recent project where the kids drew and annotated timelines of Jesus’ life.
This was the end of one of them.

Kicks.

This is something I can get into.

I may have had, as a younger man, a bit of a sneaker problem. It’s gotten better in recent years but I look back on those days fondly.

So you know I was geeked to find Page 2’s sneaker bracket.

I have a sinking suspicion that the adidas Superstar will do very well in my personal bracket.

The Complete Calvin and Hobbes – Update

I mentioned it back in April, and now Amazon has some more info on the collection, including this photo of the slipcased volumes.

Bill Watterson wrote the introduction:

“”I’ve loved comic strips as long as I can remember. As a kid, I knew I wanted to be either a cartoonist or an astronaut. The latter was never much of a possibility, as I don’t even like riding in elevators. I kept my options open until seventh grade, but when I stopped understanding math and science, my choice was made. There is great personal satisfaction in attending to detail and quality, and I remain very proud of the standards the strip met day after day. I also liked the responsibility of knowing that, succeed or fail, it was all my own doing. This approach kept the strip very honest and personal–verything having to do with Calvin and Hobbes expressed my own ideas, my own values, my own way. I wrote every word, drew every line, and painted every color. It’s a rare gift to find such fulfilling work and I tried to show my appreciation by giving the strip everything I had to offer.”"

New Tiny Showcase print is up.

Good news! The newest Tiny Showcase is up and isn’t sold out yet.

This is going to look amazing. All of those little flowers will pop off the page. I am very excited.

B. Simmons on Big Shot Bob

I know I’m a day late with this, but Bill Simmons has another great piece about Robert Horry over at ESPN2’s Page 2.

Simmons has been upping Horry for a long time now but the Dude is so clutch that he deserves all of the attention.

At the other end of the Horry-love spectrum, this idiot has it all backwards.

Heavy Rotation – Stars

I had never heard of Stars before I saw the video for “Ageless Beauty” on Subterranean back in the winter. I definitely dug that song but not so much that I had to run out and buy the album. Then I started to read some positive press about their album, “Set Yourself On Fire” and I got curious enough to seek it out. I snagged a copy off the sneaker net and have been rocking it steadily since.

It’s got the chamber-pop bits of a Belle and Sebastian with the syth-bloop that all the kids are rocking to these days and they manage to pull it off nicely. It’s really held up to repeated listens and it’s got a couple of songs that will definitely end up on 2005’s Best of.

You can stream every song on the album at the Stars’ site. Check it out.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan

This is the best thing I’ve seen on the internet this morning. And there are plenty more of these older WWF photos if you click through that picture of Mr. Duggan.
Admittedly, I haven’t gotten much surfing in so far today…

Hope at the MODA

Good friend and great artist Chris Hope will have his work presented alongside such illustration luminaries as Jesse LeDoux, Jeff Kleinsmith, Tara McPherson, Modern Dog, Mark McDevitt and Robert Lee at Graphic Noise, July 28 – August 20, 2005, at the Museum of Design – Atlanta.

Good work, Chris. Don’t show them up too badly.
