“John Popper meets Doug E. Fresh”

You kind of need to see it to get it.

CBS’ “Locusts” wasn’t very good?

That’s what Scott Hamilton at StompTokyo.com says.

“So after last monthÂ’s Spring Break Shark Attack the only logical follow-up for CBS was Locusts!, which aired on Sunday night. It was essentially a remake of The Swarm (1978) without the star power. No Michael Caine or Henry Fonda, instead Locusts! has Lucy Lawless and no one else.”

I’ve been a reader of Stomp Tokyo for a while and this is one of the funnier reviews I’ve read there. The gist is that Scott watches bad movies on purpose and the reviews them semi-seriously. His ‘Locusts’ review isn’t very serious at all.

Lee Walton vs. Shaquille O’Neal

Lee Walton challenged Shaq to a free throw competition this past season.

Check out the rules. Lee lost by 8 but his closing statement video is pretty funny stuff.

new Tiny Showcase is up!

Oh, this is good.

Steve Mack is the featured artist this week. His portfolio site is well worth checking out. Shag-esque only more homey than Tiki.

Tiny Showcase is back on track this week.

Sen. Santorum in Accuweather’s Pocket?

John Rogers at Kung Fu Monkey has a great post today about Sen. Santorum’s work to get US taxpayers to pay twice for weather data collected by the NOAA.

” Hey, this is fun. Senator Santorum has introduced a bill that would prohibit federal meteorologists from competing with companies such as AccuWeather and The Weather Channel. That is, no more free National Weather Service website where you could, oh, get the service of finding out the weather. Nationally. Which would seem to be their territory.”

I’m kind of a weather dork. I pay attention to the maps online. I think they’re cool. I use Accuweather for my basic forecast info. Their layout is cleaner than the NOAA site but if I really want geeky data I go to the NOAA because it’s free there. All of that goes away if this bill gets passed.

The kicker, according to The Raw Story, is that Sen. Santorum “has received nearly $4,000 from AccuWeather’s founder and executive vice president since 2000″. $4000 doesn’t sound like that much, but it’s apparently enough to get a bill introduced in the U.S. Senate.

This stinks.

“We’ll always have ICQ”

Regina Lynn writes a sex & technology column for Wired.com. She writes about the intersection of technology and intimacy. Generally it doesn’t hold my interest, because too often the intersection about which she is writing is a literal one. But this week’s “We’ll always have ICQ” is worth a read.

What’s the etiquette for ending these nontraditional arrangements? Do three dates with someone you met online obligate you to a breakup phone call? Or is e-mail enough?

The link is completely worksafe. The S-word appears a couple times, but the article isn’t about that. It’s about maintaining and ending personal relationships that exist primarily via elctronic communication.

Monster Island Fun Park.

This site has some crazy looking photos of an abandoned amusement park. All of the overgrown vegetation combines with the fog to create a movie-perfect look. Maybe I’ve just read too much Planetary, but can’t you just see a T. Rex stomping out of the background at any moment?

[thanks, yewknee, for the link]

Ene Man!

I was dropping off a prescription the other afternoon when I saw this amazing promotional item.
When I asked the pharmacists about it they said that a colleague brought it back from a convention this winter. Better still, this colleague said that the Fleet people had a real, live Ene Man there walking around. Here are some pictures of him.
What sort of people make a children’s toy based on an enema?
I am still giggling about this.

Old Man’s Dismay

The Jane’s Addiction classic, “Mountain Song” is now being used to sell Coors Light and I’m pissed.

Is this how all of those hippies felt when Nike used “Revolution” to sell sneakers?
