Squeeze me

It looks cooler without the camera's flash, but those pics came out too blurry. Stupid shaking hands.

Well, that was pretty easy! I installed the SlimDevices Squeezebox in about a half-hour, and I wasn’t really rushing. It would have been faster if I had read the instructions first. Yes, I’m an American.

I was pretty well set up and ready to go. The living room entertainment center was already hardwired from my router (for last month’s Operation Xbox Live). I plugged it into a new 5-port switch I had bought and into the back of the receiver. Allison had already confidently removed the component CD player.

At first, it couldn’t find the SlimServer software running from my desktop, but once I had (you know) looked at the instructions, it was a cinch.

So far, we’re very happy. It seems like the sound is less rich than a CD, but we may need to tweak the pitch, treble, bass, etc. In any case, it’s way cool to have our entire music collection, approximately 3600 songs, all available in an iPod-like interface.

Coolest feature (so far) that I wasn’t expecting? You can turn on various “screensavers” to run while music is playing. This one displays RSS newsfeeds. That’s pretty neato.
