RalliSport Challenge 2

I am far from a hardcore gamer. I really only like to play sports games and racing games, and even then I don’t get way into them like some guys do. I bought RSC2 on a lark (that you can read about it the “continue reading” link below) and, so far, I am pretty happy with it. I’ve been playing it like crazy for the last couple of days.

RSC2 is a rally-type racing game which means that you do most of your racing off the track. It’s different from what I am used to but it’s starting to grow on me. The game plays fast as hell, it gets genuinely disorienting at times. It’s cool! I can’t remember a racing game that’s given me that feeling before (I get it all the time when I am FPS-ing). The game has a nice balance between arcade-type racing and a straight sim. Some reviews I’ve read poo poo the arcadiness of it but that’s a positive in my book. I want a game I can play, I don’t want to have to worry about what gear I’m in I just want to hammer the throttle and hope to heck I make that next turn.

There is also an xBox Live option with RSC2 that I haven’t gotten to yet. I’m looking forward to trying online racing. If I can get that together I’ll let you know how it comes out.

I got a $10 Blockbuster gift card for Christmas and I was bummed. First, because I am a loyal Netflix customer and second, I have a long-standing distrust and dislike for Blockbuster from back when I was a customer of theirs. I figured I would just pick up a “pre-viewed” movie for $10 and just be done with it but when I got there I saw that they had a bunch of “pre-played” video games for sale. Most of them were just the games by themselves in a box. I asked if there were instructions and a lady there told me that the reason most of the games were for sale so cheap was that they had been rented but returned without the booklets. I found RSC2 and took it to the register where the cashier told me, sotto voce, that if I happened to find an instrucion booklet in the game’s display box in the game rental section that it would probably be okay if I just took it. So I did.
