I hate the Poston Brothers

They’re the representatives for Kellen Winslow II, who have rejected an offer that would have made Winslow the highest paid tight end ever. Not highest paid rookie tight end. Highest paid EVER. For a rookie. And it’s not enough.

Poston wouldn’t elaborate on his decision to reject the offer.

“I do not negotiate in the media,” Poston told The Associated Press. “We are continuing to negotiate with the Browns to obtain for Kellen Winslow II his fair market value.”

I HATE these guys. They hold out as a matter of course. How on earth can anyone negotiate with them in good faith if they so blatantly avoid doing the same.

I’m so glad the Redskins didn’t draft him. What a headache.

Review: Sleeper Vol. 2

Finished Sleeper Volume 2: “All False Moves” the other night. This is going to be a boring review.

This book is excellent. It continues the story of Holden Carver, a super-powered intelligence agent tasked with infiltrating the world’s premier organized crime cartel. Problem is, the only guy on the side of the angels who knows he’s not a traitor is in a coma. And the (bad) guy he’s working for is unnaturally smart. Scary smart.

I don’t know how I can build on what I wrote last time, except that now I realize that volume one was all setup for this. And that’s a bit of a surprise because usually setup=boring. You kinda tap-tap-tap your feet waiting for the story to just get on with it! I guess what I’m saying is that Brubaker & Phillips’ work is on an upward spiral here. I give this an A.

Unannounced features of the 4G iPod?

According to this article over at Time the new 4G iPods have some as-yet-unannounced features.

” But you should know that internally the new iPod is a ground-up reconstruction, and its really compelling applications - the ones that very well might get the goat of anyone unable or unwilling to upgrade - are still secret. All that Apple is saying is that there’s more to this than what’s being publicized.

If you’re thinking about finally getting an iPod, now’s your chance. If you’re thinking about handing down your current iPod and getting a new one with a bigger hard drive, now’s your chance. But don’t feel pressured into upgrading, because no major bragging rights will go to the possessors of these latest iPods. That is, not yet. “

That second paragraph sounds a little like sponsored hype but I am certainly intrigued.

Good News - Manning signs

ESPN reporting that the Giants and Manning agreed to a six-year, $54 million deal today.

Phew. Now he’ll be in camp from the beginning, which is huge. This is further support to my point of Manning being a low-risk/high-potential choice for the Giants. I still think Warner should start the season and play as long as he keeps New York in playoff contention. I think the odds are higher for Warner getting hurt or playing himself out of the starting job, but in the preseason I can still dream.

Clean out!

So, Mark Millar has a big ol’ interview on Newsarama about his upcoming run on Wolverine. It’s more interesting that in sounds. Here’s the bit that has me thinking:

NRAMA: Let’s keep it up with the psychoanalysis of the character in print. What stories, to you, define the character and make him unique?

MM: I’m the wrong guy to ask, probably, because I don’t have a comprehensive collection of Wolverine comics… I’m sure there’s lots of bad Wolvie stories out there, but obviously nobody recommended them and so I’ve only read the cream…

I’ve done this with my entire comic collection recently. I just gave away all the crap I hung onto for God knows whatever reason makes us horde bad comics. Now my shelves are just filled with the truly great stuff. It’s called de-cluttering and, when I dip into my study and look for something to read, I just see Moore’s Captain Britain, the Morrison Doom Patrol and Animal Man books, Milligan’s Enigma, Brian’s Ultimate Spidey and so on. In my world, bad comics just don’t exist. It’s beautiful.

What a fantastic idea. I know I have lots of crap that I’ll never look at again. And I know it’s literally moldering in the basement. I should just chuck a lot of it. I wonder how much I would consider worth keeping? 75%? 25%? It’s an interesting idea for de-cluttering. Of course, I know I’ll likely have no time for this, but I guess you never know.

Apparently, Optimus Prime is pretty fast. Check out the age group results from Rockville’s 2004 Twilight Run:

    3 Will Knox 19 Baltimore MD 25:48

PS, he’s also a firefighter with the Ohio National Guard

Remember when all the kids played with actual Legos?

LEGO Star Wars

This is pretty high concept, but sounds awesome. This computer game will let you play through the Original Prequel Trilogy of Star Wars, only as a lego character.

1000 Songs

I’ve been importing and transferring songs like crazy in the week I’ve had the eMac. Tonight I got #1000 in.

That honor goes to Frank Black’s “The man Who Was Too Loud”.

Un-f-ing believable

I drank like a 22 year-old on Saturday night. I traded for Ricky Williams in my fantasy league a month ago. On Sunday morning those two facts collided in a spectacular display of pain and confusion.

I can’t believe Ricky Williams retired. Here’s a photo:

(the blurriness here is likely my fault, even thought I didn’t snap the photo)

The hangover is fading.

Michelle’s birthday is tomorrow. She wanted a *big* party so we threw one for her over this past weekend. It was a full-blown college-style party. We had some food but the emphasis was on the booze. There was even a beer pong table. Michelle spent the week heading up to the party putting together a playlist of her favorite songs and I hear (from reliable sources) that there was a little dancing.

I had the foresight to charge my cameraphone and I took a few snaps. I did not have the foresight to get batteries for the regular digital camera or to buy film for the old-fashioned camera so these will have to suffice for memories. The blurriness is mostly due to the cameraphone. Right.
