September 2003

So hopefully I’ll get back in the saddle here.

The whole Isabel aftermath fiasco really whupped the desire to blog out of me. I’m still around and I will have all sorts of vaguely interesting things to post about this week.

Highlights will include:

Impressions from ‘Lost In Translation’ ; reviews and thoughts on new albums from Outkast, British Sea Power, Spiritualized, and Mojave 3 ; a serious attempt at a ‘flog’ ; and even more of the photographic wonder that you’ve all come to expect here at Safe As Milk.

I see The Light!!

That was a long, dark 11 days.

Power came back yesterday afternoon. Cable is out, so no internet. And my dish got slapped around in the hurricane so there’s no tv either. I called DirecTV last night to get a service call and the first available date they had was October 16th. I’m going to try to fix it myself this weekend. I do have lights, though. That’s something positive. Very positive. Oh, and cold drinks. We have those too.

A fortunate confluence when the power goes out.

Candles that are cheap and seasonal. I know you love it.

Kill Bill Vol.1 trailer is up.

Here it is.

I dunno. It looks pretty cool, I guess, but it doesn’t scream MUST SEE to me.

Let me know what you think.

Well, it’s over.

We lost power around 7 or so last night. It wasn’t too bad, though, because Michelle made sure we were solidly stocked with batteries and candles.

They don’t know when we’ll be powered up again. hopefully it will be by Sunday so I can watch some football. We’ll see.

I took some photos on my way in to work today that I will try to post soon.

Heavy Duty

It’s a sweet photo but it’s too big for my blog column.

Thanks to Brian Wood for digging this up.

She’s pushing inland.

The wind is getting pretty serious now and the rain is so heavy I can’t see more than a block or two down the street.

getting creepy

It’s starting to rain pretty hard here. The wind is picking up and now we can hear the building start to sway. We’re up pretty high (16th floor) and we can hear the ceiling tiles and window frames creaking ever so slightly.
Here’s a little before and after:
